AFTERMATH of the IBIS

September 1943 and Holt Hall is owned by Overt Holdings but who are they? Lord Standing died in 1939 and the Honourable Miles had to sell The Hall to pay the death duties. Now the villagers see only the enigmatic John Downworthy and his mother Jane looking after the empty hall and it's extensive grounds.
There are rumours in the village that important people in high-ranking uniforms have been seen in the grounds. Now the villagers have been told that they may visit the gardens and lake as usual this Saturday but from Sunday there will be no further admission to anyone until the following Wednesday.
There is much intrigued gossip about the reason for this amongst the villagers on the Holt train tonight.
Talk of spies and assassination attempts are top of the list especially since the death of stage and film actor Trevor Howard in the shooting down of BOAC flight 777 from Lisbon by eight Junkers Ju 88s from the Luftwaffe.
